Do Mommies get sick?

Recently, I had a virus and went to the doctor. He told me to get rest. I told him I had a daughter in Marching Band and rest was not something I got. Anyway, here is my question:
Do Mommies get sick and if you do how do you handle it? Do you actually rest or just try to keep plugging along? Please share.

Sometimes I fake it through an illness, but most often I try hard to allow myself time to recoup. It was easier to fake through it
when I was in my twenties, but not so much now that I am in my thirties.

As I type this, I am sick. Sitting at my desk in my office with a day full of work-related activities ahead of me -- and an evening full of taking care of two little girls (with my husband's help) when I get home. I have to be REALLY sick (like involuntarily losing body fluids) in order to justify, in my mind, taking a sick day. Sick time tends to be reserved for caring for my girls if they get sick. Otherwise, it's no rest for the weary. Too many people depend on me (or so I imagine). So I load up on OTC meds and keep plugging away...

I have too much to do to be ill - for the most part. The last time I was really sick, I actually was completely unable to do anything other than go to bed. Thank the Lord, my husband stepped up to the plate and took charge. But again, praises to God, I am rarely ill beyond maybe a light cold or sore throat, and I just keep on going through those minor illnesses.ovjlv

Good question coach Kimberly! As difficult as it may be, I do get to rest because I find it very difficult to do anything if I don't. I really to tip my hats to moms who keep trucking along, but I am no good to anyone. lol

Well After just 15 hours of non stop sleep!! Sometimes your body just shuts down.
I find my body can feel when I have an up-coming day or two off, and the peek of my sickness hits the day before. I came home from work on Staurday only to hit the bed and not to be seen for just over 15 hours...YES THANK GOD for the Daddy s Who step up to the plate and take charge!! Is everything the way I would like it to be......No but everyone is happy and heathly. I am starting to feel much better, and back off to work for me.

I think we have to take care of ourselves and allow or ask other people to help us when we need it. I have often had a "martyr" complex in the past and thought, "If I just tough it out and put myself last, I will get a turn to rest and I will be rewarded." NOT TRUE! (in my experience) You have to take care of yourself and realize you are worth care and attention just like everyone else. You can't help others if you aren't in good shape yourself.
