Mother's Day
Mother's Day is less than a month away. I have 2 questions for you. As a Mom what would you like for Mother's Day? As a daughter, how do you celebrate Mother's Day if you are fortunate to still have your Mom with you?

My mom lives a couple hours away, and if I can manage it this year, I would like to take my family down to visit her on Mother's Day. That would be the best gift and the best way to celebrate for me!
For the last several years I have planted my mother's flower garden for her. It started when she was still working, I took my children to the store to help pick out the flowers and then we went over together to plant them while she was at work. It never fails to bring an appreciative tear to her eye.
You are so true how much your presence is a present for both of you. My Mom lives 5 1/2 hours away and I know where you are coming from. Tatme_f when I was a kid we always bought my Mom geraniums for Mother's day and planted them in her flower boxes. It was a wonderful tradition. I appreciate you both sharing.
I think it is wonderful to attend church with my mom and my kids on Mothers Day. It is always a message the two of us can share and reap from. It is special to see our (3) generations in the house of the Lord. Dinner, cards, and all the rest really does not matter if there is no realtionship! I praise the Lord for My Mom and My kids! Every year since I was about 10 my mom and I would plant flowers in her yard and in the various planters/pots around the yard. Since my mother is in a different state now I haven't been able to do that but my husband carries on the tradition by taking my kids to the store to pick out flowers and then I usually end up planting them by myself (the kids lose interest quickly). My kids are very good to me and I usually make a list for them and they buy me one or two things. It is very sweet.
My ultimate mother's day gift is a gift is brunch somewhere nice (one of those hotels that put on fabulous mother's day brunches) and then a gift certificate to get some sort of spa service...I'm not picky, any will do! Each year I've had the kids I've gotten one or the other, and I feel very thankful that my husband appreciates me as a mom, no matter what he gets me. I grew up with a dad that truly believed that mother's day was a day you gave gifts to you own mother, and therefore he never got my mom anything. I could always tell she was so hurt.
For my mom I try to have the brunch I want with her, and then I always get her a gift. This year we'll all be in Kentucky for my sister's graduation from medical school, so while it won't our "normal" mother's day, I'm sure we'll make it fun!
My mom lives about a 20-hour drive away, so needless to say, we do not celebrate together. I do send her a gift and call her; this year I'm sending a subscription to a magazine she really wants.
I guess what I really want is to feel appreciated. I have to admit, I've been awfully focused on how my husband treats me... maybe not good for me to do, but I don't have as high expectations for my child because of her age. I often feel like my husband treats special days (our anniversary, my birthday, Mother's Day) as a day to throw a present at me which he spent 5 seconds thinking about (like buying me chocolate because he knows I like chocolate... I do, but I also feel like he was just checking off an obligation on his list with as little effort as possible). It's the times when he has put some thought into it (like the anniversary he made me breakfast, than sat down with me to watch a favorite childhood cartoon together, and later presented me with my old violin, restrung) that touch... no matter how little money is spent. I don't need jewelry (sorry, jewelry industry!) or anything fancy; I need to know that DH appreciates how much I put into mothering and that he cares enough to put some thought into how he shows his appreciation.
I think we all want to be appreciated for all the many things we do. Being a Mom can be a thankless task. Do know God sees all you do and appreciates all you do for his children.
This is my first year as a mom and and have to admit I am a little stressed out about Mother's Day. Both my mom and mother in law live locally, and the previous 6 years my husband and I have split the day between the two. This year we ALL will be going to the zoo, and I am hoping I, too, will get to spend some quality time with my 'lil family as well as the grandmothers. Will let you know....
Congratulations on your first Mother's Day. How special. I hope you don't get lost in the process of entertaining the grandmothers. I'm sure your child will love the Zoo. Enjoy your day.

Happy Working Mom,
Which medical school will your sister be graduating from? I'm orginally from Kentucky and graduated from the University of Kentucky.
Debby I couldn't agree more about attending church together. What a precious gift for everyone.
Love the flowers theme. What a wonderful tradition.

Thanks Happy Working Mom. I believe that is in Eastern Kentucky. Hope you enjoy the graduation.
