Back To School

What kind of emotions do you have when your kids return to school? I was a little weepy this year, because both of my children started new schools. Please share your thoughts.

My son started Kindergarten this year. Some might say that it would not be hard on me because I work and I'm already used to being away from him - that was not the case! I was a mess. I was mourning the fact that my little guy has grown up. No turning back now! But it was bittersweet. I was so happy for him and he did GREAT!

Hi Anonymous,

I remember those days of kindergarten as well. Your "baby" has grown up. I glad he had a good day.

My daughter started first grade this year. She's been going to the same Christian school since K-4 and they have a summer camp there, so when it's time to move to a new room, it hasn't been too hard.

I noticed that on the first day of school for the first couple of years I gave her instructions, or you could say a bit of advice on the first day - so I wrote it down - what they were for each year so I wouldn't forget. As she gets older, I'm going to pray what I can tell her on the first day of school - just a little something. Like when she was in K-3 I told her to be a good listener for the teacher and then tell the teacher if she had to go potty. This year I told her to be a good listener for the teacher.

For me it has gotten easier over time to leave her and go to work, especially once she started going to this school (before that I cried several times a week for four years since we couldn't afford for me to be the one to stay home and take care of her.) But for me what really helps is that every morning when I give her away, I pray and give her away to the Lord to watch over her since I can't be there.

Thanks,

Lisa
