Halloween

Usually I post this question each year, but with an added twist. So, do you celebrate Halloween. If so, what do you do? Do you go to a fall festival at your church? Now for the twist. If you children do dress up, what are they going to be this year?

I have mixed emotions about Halloween. I don't think you should celebrate a pagan ritual at church no matter what label you throw on it. This is my kid's first Halloween and we will not be dressing him up. I don't know what I will do later when he's old enough to know what's going on.

Anonymous,

You make a very good point and I agree with you. On the other side, sometimes people will come to a Fall Festival at church who may not enter the church's door. It is truly a tough call. We are having a Reformation house at our house this year. My son is dressing up as Martin Luther and my daughter is dressing up in reformation clothing. We are going to put Martin Luther's 95 theses on our door and put a tract in with the candy. I appreciate you sharing.

We celebrate Fall at our house during this season. My son has always loved pumpkins, so we are going to carve pumpkins and go trick-or-treating around the neighborhood (a lot of the candy usually ends up at work with me or my husband). My son is dressing up like a fireman and my daughter like Winnie-the-Pooh. I will not allow my kids to dress up like a vampire, witch, or something else really scary/creepy. At school, my son is supposed to wear his PJs to school tomorrow, so that is fun.

Good idea for when my kiddos get older Kimberely - let us know how it goes.

Hi CWM of 2,

I always love Winnie the Pooh and firemen are great as well. I hope they had a good time. Our best estimate is we gave out 129 gospels of John. My children took care of carving the pumpkins this year and passing out candy. It was really neat. My prayer is people will read the Gospels and come to know our Savior.

I know that I am very late posting, but felt that I should add my 2 cents anyway. I believe that in all we do as Christians that we must be led by the Holy Spirit. As a mother, I have found that this is the best way to do things. I always cover my son with the Blood of Jesus in my prayer time, because whether we like it or yes we have very little control on the activities that go on outside of our own homes especially when our children are subjected to the public school system and the system(s) of this world we live in. One year, I felt led to participate in Halloween by passing out Christian tracks geared to children of all ages along with alot of candy that I prayed over. Oddly enough, I noticed that because I was generous in my giving of the treats kids were telling other kids to go to 'that house' and even asked me for the tracks that were in comic book form. The Holy Spirit said that no other time of the year do people knock on your door do seize the moment to witness for Christ. Jack Chick puts out the tracks for about 14 cents per track and they are so fun to read. See chicktracks.com
