Valentine's Day

Do you like Valentine's Day? I'm not trying to trip you up. Some people feel Valentine's Day was invented by Hallmark (maybe it was - I don't know). Others love doing the romantic thing. I know for us often we couldn't find a babysitter or a non busy restaurant to go out to on Valentine's Day. So, be honest do you like Valentine's Day or do you feel pressured by it? Not to mention often you have to give valentines for your children's class as well.

I don't necessarily feel pressured by Valentine's Day so much as I could simply take it or leave it. It's a lovely reason for my hubby to send flowers to my office, but we're in the same boat you are re: babysitters and restaurants. The kids always do card exchanges at school, so we participate in that, but otherwise, we don't make a big deal about it.

Valentine's Day is special to my husband and me, as we met years ago at a church Valentine's event. Since we see it as our personal special day, we don't feel pressured to meet the world's expectations of expensive gifts, lavish dinners, etc. However, we do try to make time during February (sometimes schedules prevent it from being on a specific date) to spend some special time together as a couple, not just a set of parents, celebrating our relationship. Also, I love fresh flowers, but the price goes WAY up at Valentine's. I told my hubby to save that gift for our anniversary or my birthday!

Being in Love with Father GOD and remembering the story told about St. Valentine's life, causes me to remain humble and patient. Thank God, I get additional consistent, especially loud visual and vocal reminders handling day to day responsibilities that cause me to fine tune those virtues.

I love Valentines! I think it is not only a great opportunity to remind my self of why I love my husband and to tell him, but to teach my kids what true love does for others. We invite unattached singles to our house for a Valentines dinner and send homemade Valentines to widows and divorced people. I in the midst of a three part Friday series with ideas like these on my blog.
