Hi CWM's - I am in Sydney Australia. I have been struggling lately with which high school to send my daughter to. I know if I send her to a Christian High school, I would be doing a great thing for her - but, ohhhh the fees. Does anyone else have this struggle? If I send her to a public high school, just around corner from where we live, she will be exposed to the more secular teachings, and evolution would be one of these, but it would be much easier on us financially. I am torn. I don't know about in other parts of the world, but I find the division, between high schools very unfair and I find that the fees, that the Christian high schools charge, are very unfair too. Christian teaching should be easy to access for families & I find it rather unjust that they charge so much money. Does anyone else feel this way? Any suggestions? Izzi.
I totally understand your struggle and have been there. Yes, private Christian schools are expensive. Here in the US the teachers at private schools often make at least half what the public school teachers make. My children have gone to private Christian schools, but in are our area at least 3 have closed in the last few years due to finances. I certainly would encourage lots of prayer. If you do decided the public school route make sure you talk with your child when they come home from school about their day and curriculum. Also, if you could talk to any parents who have their children in the private school. Christian schools vary widely. Some are like public schools with a Christian name, some can be legalistic, and some can charge high fees, but not be strong academically. It does require lots of prayer and research. I hope I helped a little and didn't make you more confused.
I am in a similar situation. My daughter starts high school this year, We can not pay for privare school unless one of us worked lots and lots of overtime. We've decided the stress is not worth it given that my daughter is well grounded and strong. We do talk a lot about what she learns in school and I've been pleased that these issues have come up. We've had the opportunity for many discussions that may not have occurred if she were in a Christian school. Cheryl
I would like to make a comment that I am new to the blog community and I wanted to get involved and support my fellow CWM's. I have noticed that there are several blogs for stay at home moms and they are great, but I can't really relate to their situations because I work full time and take care of my husband, 3kids (under age of 3) and my home at the same time. So I wanted to "follow" blogs that relate to me, feel free to to leave your blog or suggestions, or comments at fw1imonamission.com *bare with me, I just started blogging, so I'm learning.
Welcome to the CWM Blog. Thanks for all your helpful suggestions and posts. You really have your hands full with 3 children under 3. Hope you enjoy blogging. We have a great CWM community.
Hi Izzi - we have also had this struggle lately in a slightly different context, my children are younger and are currently enrolled in a Christian School. We considered taking them out due to the financial stress and the hope that perhaps I might be able to cut my hours at work to less than full-time. I too simply recommend lots of prayer and taking into account your child's personality. For example, my older child is a real leader and very strong and I don't feel as concerned with putting her in a public school environment, but my youngest child is so easily influenced that for now I feel its worth the sacrifice. That said, the bottom line is that Christ wants us to seek balance and if you or your husband have to work so much overtime that you can't be there like you want to for your kids, or you end up to stressed out, I believe that God will bless your decision to send them to public school and he will protect them and guide them. At the end of the day Christian school is great, but it is not a guarantee, the morals and values that you already teach at home are what will remain with your children. God Bless you, I will pray for you. Tash
We had a similar situation. We had to take our children out of Christian school because of rising tuition costs. I felt that fear was the motivation for having them in Christian school, and I don't think God wants us to operate out of fear. Later my oldest son told me that kids made fun of him much more in Christian school than public school. Our Christian school had a lot of wealthy families in it, and we weren't one of them. I would agree that the decision needs to be made after much prayer and consideration of your specific situation and family.
Lots of wise advice being given about Christian schools. One point that everyone is mentioning is lots of prayer and it depends on the child. I know one family who has one child in public school, one in private school, and one homeschooled in the same family. The parents realized that each child with their personality needs a different option. Also, I continue to learn daily that God is in control and will look over my children. May God give us all wisdom in schooling choices with our children.
