Summer break

What is your favorite thing to do in the summer or when your children are out of school?

Sleep semilate (8 instead of 5:30) and just have a generally more relaxed lifestyle than during the school year. We have more family time because it is daylight longer and no homework. Nita

Hi Nita,

I definitely like sleeping a little later as well. It is also wonderful not to have homework. Routine can be good, but it is great to not be as structured.
Thanks for sharing.

Well, sadly even though school is out, most companies do not shut down for the season (too bad - wouldn't that be awesome?!?), so I am at the office most of the summer. My children attend a Christian Summer Day Camp, but our daily routine is much less harried. I do take off a couple of days at the end of school and we enjoy our annual week at Hume Lake in the Western Sierra Nevada Mountains near the Sequoia Nat'l Forest. We just love the get-away. There's no cell phone reception for the most part, and very little available TV, radio, or internet. It's our time to reconnect with the Lord in a big way in His big, beautiful mountains, which then enables us to strengthen our family relationships and re-charge for the next school year ahead.

I love the feeling of not having to be anywhere or doing anything I don't choose to do. Our youth groups stop for the summer as well as other sports and music involvement so I love the relaxed "don't have to go anywhere" feelings the summer brings.

Darcie,

Hume Lake sounds beautiful. What a wonderful way to recharge your batteries.

Vicki,

I love the more relaxed schedule as well. Accept we still have some church things.

Thank you all for sharing.

Fortunately I am also off during the summer. It is light here in OR until 9:30 or so, so bedtimes are late - around 10:30 or sometimes later! This summer everyone has been sleeping in as well - sometimes until 9:00 or even 9:30! I love not making lunches and doing homework. We try to go on as many day trips and short local trips to the beach and windsurfing on my husband's days off. He works 12 hr shifts, so he does have a lot of days off. This summer we are expecting a baby in July - so we are staying close to home. Usually we fly to MS to see family for a couple of weeks. Needless to say, I LOVE summers! It's my time to reconnect to everything and everyone!

I love the summer months - we are on the go. Going to t-ball games, bike riding, and swimming. We have a 4th of July party for our church small group. We ate and then walked to our town's fireworks. The down side is that it is hard to fit it cleaning and laundry during the summer. I just try to remember that summer is short and that we have to enjoy it! Vacation is coming up and we can really enjoy spending time together as a family.
