One, what ways are you trying to save money in these tough economic times? I know every time I go to the grocery store it seems I pay more for less food. Second, is someone in your family out of work right now? If so, how are you coping and what things are you trying to do to encourage your family?

One thing I know for sure, as a therapist, we may try to hide hard times from our children but they always know something is going on. It doesn't necessarily have to be as a CWM. Sometimes I think when we are seeing others struggle just as much as we are we can be encouraged. Also, if you could share what has helped you most during this current struggle. I am in a study right now entitled, "When Life is Hard" by James MacDonald. He said if you are not experiencing trials as a believer then maybe you are not His child. Trials are just part of a believer's life. To find out more read Hebrews 12:1-18. Are you on Facebook, myspace, twitter, etc? How much time do you spend on those activities? Here is my dilemna. First, of all most of these sites people are extremely focused on self and share that with everyone else. Secondly, as a therapist I am seeing an explosion of Facebook affairs. People getting connected with their highschool sweethearts again and leaving their families. Now on the flip side. I enjoy staying connected with my nieces who live in another state. Also, friends that live in other states. I just think there is a danger with Facebook. Also, do you use Facebook, etc. to share Christ with others? I think as with anything we need to watch how we spend our time and does it glorify God. It definitely gets harder as you get older. I just found a really neat website, www.sparkpeople.com. The website is free and has tons of resources. You can enter what you eat during the day and it will calculate the calories, protetin, carbs, etc. Just the act of recording what you eat gets your attention. There is also exercise information. They have a site for teens as well. Just thought I would share that with my sisters in Christ. Feel free to add any tips you may have. One thing I noticed especially when I became a Mom is if my kids got a snack I needed one too, so that definitely puts on some of the pounds.

Are you on Twitter?

Just wondering how many of you are on Twitter and if you tweet? For example in Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, etc. She shares she is not able to volunteer as much as she likes and that produces guilt sometimes. She also says she struggles with an earnest desire to serve the Lord and balance work and home. The CWM survey continues to be updated and tabulated. The latest survey totals I have stated 52.33% of the respondents volunteer at church. So, CWMs do volunteer at church.

So, how do you handle volunteering at church and if you don't do you feel guilty about it? I wanted to let you know about a website I found. The website is http://www.purefashion.com/. They do not sell clothes in particular, but they have fashion shows showing how to choose modest clothing. Also, they have modest clothing guidelines you can print out. A great way to have specifics to help your daughter in choosing clothing. Check out the website and they may have a club in your area.

Open Comment Section

I moved the current Open Comment Section up to the top, so more people could post.
Here are the most recent comments.

Hayley said...
I am a newer mom and teacher who made the decision to go back to work this year.
I did a search and found this site in hopes to be connected with other christian moms, whom at one point or another have faced a difficult decision as career women---what is best for their children and family---remaining at work or transitioning to staying at home. We recently moved and have not found a church family here (which has made this time of my mommy-hood and making the decision to go back to work all that more difficult to get through). I am hoping to get both some prayer from other Christian women as well as advise from anyone else who can offer it and or a verse of encouragement.
Thank you.

April 7, 2008 10:49 PM

Coach Kimberly said...
Hi Hayley,

Welcome to the CWM community. If you would like a prayer partner send an email to me at kimberly@kimberlychastain.com and I will try to match you with someone. Moving to a new town, new job, and a new Mom - you have a lot on your plate. I remember we moved when my daughter was 10 months old and took a long time to find a church. I was extremely lonely. As for going back to work I think each woman struggles with that differently. I am convinced that God does not have a one size plan that fits all. Each family has to pray and decide what is best for their family. On the main page of the CWM site there is an article about what the Bible says about CWM. The verse that stands out for me for you right now is Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to give you hope and a future." Recently, I read a commentary that said it should read for God has thoughts of you. No matter what you are going through right now it does not catch God by surprise. Trust him and ask for his clear guidance. I pray God will be more than sufficient for you right now.

April 8, 2008 5:54 AM

Anonymous said...
Hello -

I'm a CWM - married with a 6 year old son. I sometimes feel a guilty and overwhelmed about not having my house as clean as I wish it was.. Sometimes I think about finding a housekeeper that would come to my house every 2 or 3 weeks to help me clean my home but I immediately feel guilty about having to pay someone to do something I should be doing. What do you suggest I do?

May 1, 2008 5:50 PM

Coach Kimberly said...
Hi Anonymous,

I certainly understand not having enough time to clean. If you can afford to have someone clean your house then do it. You will have more time with you son and be less stressed. When I look at the Proverbs 31 woman it says she managed her servants. So, she probably had someone cooking or even cleaning some. I think as CWMs we do guilt so well. The ultimate goal is getting your house clean, whether you do it or someone else. So, my suggestion is have someone clean and then be able to relax and goof off with you son. Hope that helped some.

May 2, 2008 4:41 AM

What do you like best about being a Mom?

Share your thoughts in honor of Mother's Day coming up.

What is God Teaching you right now?

I think we can learn from one another in our walks with God. Enjoy.

THE NEXT SURVIVOR SERIES

Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car and 3 kids
each for six weeks.

Each kid will play two sports and either take music or dance classes
There is no fast food.

Each man must take care of his 3 kids; keep his assigned house clean,
correct all homework, and complete science projects, cook, do laundry,
and pay a list of 'pretend' bills with not enough money.

In addition, each man will have to budget in money for groceries each
week.

Each man must remember the birthdays of all their friends and
relatives, and send cards out on time.

Each man must also take each child to a doctor's appointment, a dentist
appointment and a haircut appointment.

He must make one unscheduled and inconvenient visit per child to the
Urgent Care.

He must also make cookies or cupcakes for a social function.

Each man will be responsible for decorating his own assigned house,
planting flowers outside and keeping it presentable at all times.

The men will only have access to television when the kids are asleep and

all chores are done.

The men must shave their legs, wear makeup daily, adorn himself with
jewelry, wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes, keep fingernails
polished and eyebrows groomed.

During one of the six weeks, the men will have to endure severe
abdominal cramps, back aches, and have extreme, unexplained mood swings
but never once complain or slow down from other duties.

They must attend weekly school meetings, church, and find time at least
once to spend the afternoon at the park or a similar setting.

They will need to read a book and then pray with the children each
night and in the morning, feed them, dress them, brush their teeth and
comb their hair by 7:00 am.

A test will be given at the end of the six weeks, and each father will
be required to know all of the following information: each child's
birthday, height, weight, shoe size, clothes size and doctor's name.
Also the child's weight at birth, length, time of birth, and length of
labor, each child's favorite color, middle name, favorite snack,
favorite song, favorite drink, favorite toy, biggest fear and what they
want to be when they grow up.

The kids vote them off the island based on performance. The last man
wins only if...he still has enough energy to be intimate with his
spouse at a moment's notice.

If the last man does win, he can play the game over and over and over
again for the next 18-25 years eventually earning the right To be called
Mother!

After you get done laughing, send this to as many females as you think
will get a kick out of it and as many men as you think can handle it.
Just don't send it back to me.... You care deeply for your children and God gave us that gift. Enjoy.

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him."I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?""All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry. Finally he asked God. He said, "God, why do women cry so easily?"God said:" When I made the woman she had to be special.I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly. And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed.""You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

Thankfulness

We are getting ready to enter the "greedy" time of the year.
